TopVerdict Names $13.1M, $10.1M and $2.85M Verdicts to Top Labor & Employment Verdicts in U.S.
Partner Matthew McNicholas and Senior Lawyer Douglas Winter were recognized on TopVerdict’s 2023 lists of the Top 20 and Top 50 Labor & Employment Verdicts in the United States for their involvement in three landmark cases. They secured a spot on the Top 20 list with impressive verdicts, including a $13.1 million verdict for two male LAPD officers in a sex discrimination and retaliation case and a $10.1 million verdict for an LAPD Captain in a discrimination and retaliation case. Additionally, they are featured on the Top 50 list for a $2.85 million verdict for a Riverside police officer in a ticket quota retaliation case.
In Glick, et al. v. City of Los Angeles, the firm represented LAPD Officers Stephen Glick and Alfred Garcia against the City of Los Angeles in their claims that they had been discriminated against and retaliated on the basis of their sex. Following a one-week trial, McNicholas and Winter secured a $13.1 million verdict.
In Vince v. City of Los Angeles, et al., McNicholas & McNicholas represented LAPD Captain Stacey Vince against the Los Angeles Police Department in her claims that she had been retaliated against for reporting discrimination against her husband, who was also an LAPD employee. The case resulted in a $10.1 million verdict after a three-week trial.
In Casteel v. City of Riverside, et al., McNicholas and Winter represented now-retired Riverside Police Department Officer Shawn Casteel against the City of Riverside. The Riverside Police Department implemented an unlawful quota, and Casteel faced retaliation for reporting it. After a month-long trial, a $2.85 million verdict was secured.
