McNicholas & McNicholas Obtains Settlement for LAPD Officer in Retaliation Case
Associate Abel Nair secured a settlement on behalf of a Los Angeles Police Department officer who was retaliated against for reporting acts of misconduct within the department.
While the officer was assigned to Valley Regional Jail Facility (VJS) as the Assistant Officer to evaluate the workplace and oversee employees, he witnessed several instances of mismanagement and misconduct, including violations to state and federal laws, which he reported to his superiors. As a result of engaging in this protected activity, the officer was transferred from his position at VJS to the Metropolitan Detention Center (MDC). While at MDC, the officer applied for an open position with the Department’s Internal Affairs Group, and was informed by a Lieutenant who sat on the board for his interview that he was denied the position because he had previously reported misconduct and violations of state and federal law.
