Los Angeles Times Names Matthew McNicholas and Patrick McNicholas to Consumer Attorneys of Southern California 2024 List
Partners Matthew McNicholas and Patrick McNicholas were recognized in the Los Angeles Times’ Consumer Attorneys of Southern California 2024 list, acknowledging the significant impact of their work in personal injury and labor and employment.
Matthew was highlighted for his advocacy on behalf of first responders dealing with discrimination, harassment, and retaliation. In his role as panel counsel for the Los Angeles Police Protective League and the United Firefighters of Los Angeles City, he achieved over $17 million in employment settlements in 2023. Additionally, he secured a $2.25 million settlement in a gender harassment case against Willits PD, highlighting his commitment to holding public safety agencies accountable and empowering employees to create safer workplaces.
Patrick’s feature highlighted his nearly half a billion dollars in mass tort settlements for 2023, mainly from wildfire litigation. He represented over 12,000 victims against PG&E, SoCal Edison, and the California Department of Water and Power (DWP), notably co-leading cases like the Dixie Fire and Creek Fire. His efforts resulted in crucial safety improvements, such as the burial of power lines by PG&E and Edison. He also achieved significant settlements, including $248.5 million for the Camp Fire and $175.7 million for the NorCal Fires. Additionally, Patrick leads mass tort cases addressing systemic sexual abuse in California’s juvenile halls, driving vital reforms.
