Law360 Names Matthew McNicholas to 2024 MVPs of the Year List
Partner Matthew McNicholas has been honored as one of Law360’s 2024 MVPs of the Year in employment law. This distinction is awarded to attorneys who have set themselves apart through significant achievements in high-stakes litigation, complex global matters and record-breaking deals. The selection process is highly competitive, with editors evaluating over 900 submissions to narrow it down to just 157 attorneys across 74 firms and 34 practice areas. Being recognized on this prestigious list is a testament to McNicholas’ exceptional contributions to the field.
McNicholas’ profile highlights his expertise in employment law, with a particular focus on first responder employment cases and sharing insights into his recent legal successes. He described his most challenging case, in which he secured a $13.1 million verdict for two male LAPD officers in a gender discrimination lawsuit. This achievement was especially noteworthy given the time constraints and the complexities of representing men in such cases. McNicholas told Law360, “I was representing two male police officers in a gender discrimination case, and so on its face, it was not the easiest thing to do, because the general assumption is that it goes the other way.”
Additionally, the Law360 feature highlighted McNicholas’ proudest achievement, creating the Instagram account @FirstRespondersLaw to educate cops, firefighters, and first responders about their workplace rights. With over 26,000 followers, the account offers valuable legal insights. McNicholas stated, “I consider it a proud moment when I get [direct messages] and comments, and when you put them together, I get several hundreds. This the culmination of taking my 25 years of experience and putting it out there.”
