Lawsuit Filed: Former LAPD Officer Sues City of Los Angeles for Violating California Labor Code Involving Illegal Gang-Related Demands – Featured in La Opinion
McNicholas & McNicholas, LLP filed a lawsuit against the City of Los Angeles and the Los Angeles Police Department on behalf of a veteran LAPD officer in the Metro Division, who was retaliated against, stripped of his police powers, and reassigned home without any explanation – all because the department thought he would blow the whistle on an arrest quota.
The allegations echo other cases Partner Matthew McNicholas has been representing in recent months. Four other LAPD officers have been threatened or punished with removal from their work area and sent to administrative duties for not meeting the demands of their supervising officers involving gang-related arrests or seizures of weapons.
La Opinion interviewed McNicholas, who explained that the LAPD Metro Division and its command staff made their demands clear to produce more arrests involving “gangsters and guns.” Officers who met those requirements were promoted, while others who didn’t produce arrests, were threatened or punished, which is in violation of the California Labor Code.
